GreennShui Design and Consulting Services

GreennShui Design and Consulting Services offers different consulting services such as: Feng Shui, Green Building/LEED (Leadernship in Energy & Environment) and Interior Design. Raphaelle Richarde (principal), Assoc. AIA, LEED AP envisioned using her expertise to provide high quality services with passion and commitment to those areas for the last 10 years.

Ms. Richarde graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture from the Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, California.
In 1996, Raphaelle started specializing in Ecological architecture and Natural Building (straw bale, cob, lime, Straw & Clay, Rammed Earth). She attended a one year Masters Program at SFIA (San Francisco Institute of Architecture) where she learned about Ecological Design systems such as water, energy, food production, architecture and renewable energy. She was mentored for 8 years by Phil Hawes, AIA, (architect of the Biosphere II project). In addition, she worked with Christopher Day (RIBA ) on master Planning and buildings places for the soul.
In 2001, while working as an assistant construction manager with PHFH (Peninsula Habitat for Humanity), she was sponsored by the Head Department of the Civil Engineering Department at Stanford University (Professor Boyd) to audit a nine month Masters Program in Construction Management.
In 2003 she attended Cal Poly (San Louis Obispo) and graduated in 2005 with a Masters in the Science of Architecture. In 2006 she published her f
irst paper (Sustainable Methodology for Large Scale Buildings) and was a speaker at the First international Eco architecture Conference in the UK. Furthermore, in 2006 Raphaelle became a LEED accredited professional. Hence, in 2002, she assisted in certifying an existing Silver LEED certified building headquarters corporate office while working as a project engineer at Swinerton Builders. Today Raphaelle is a LEED A.P. Accredited professional with more than 10 years of environmental experience. Raphaelle has consulted internationally and worked in the Middle East, France, London, and China.

In 1996, Raphaelle first started studying Feng shui through the teaching of His holiness Grandmaster professor Lin Yun Rinpoche. Grandmaster professor Lin Yun is the founder and supreme leader of the contemporary Black Sect Tantric Buddhism at its fourth stage and Yun Lin Temple in Berkley, CA along with temples in New York and Taipei. ( http://www.yunlintemple.org/professor.htm). She than studied and worked with Pamela Ticoulat, owner and principal for Shelter For The Soul, inc., Santa Cruz, CA. fengshui@ cruzio.com. She attended many Feng Shui International conferences and has worked with other Feng shui Masters in the field.

GreennShui is inspired by the above specialties. Please check our different range of services and feel free to contact us by e-mail. We are located in the Bay Area, California and we would be more than happy to meet your needs.

A Methodology for Sustainable Design Analysis of Large Scale Buildings

R. Richarde1, R. Ibrahim2
1Department of Architecture,
California Polytechnic State University, USA.
2Construction Engineering & Management Program,
Stanford University, USA.

Abstract

Long-term sustainability—including maintenance, operation, and life cycle cost analysis—should start during the concept design stage where most critical decisions are determined. This paper provides advice for owners, facility managers, and designers to optimize sustainable design options. Furthermore, by front ending the costs for implementing those design options, owners return on their investments will likely be long term, they will likely have reduced operational maintenance costs, and will likely have an increase in global energy conservation. This paper proposes how to formalize a “Sustainable Methodology” (SM) to facilitate effective contributions by decision makers during early concept design stage of a facility development project. The SM framework has five phases: input, evaluation, summarization, synthesizing, and output. These phases are initiated by the owner’s preliminary architectural program and sustainable design goals, starting with site planning. The site planning elements are climate (macro- and micro-climate), orientation, use, function, shape/form, and surrounding (landscaping and buildings). The SM framework evaluates planning elements and suggests implementation options in harmony with environmental sustainability objectives.
In addition, this paper describes how the SM framework was tested on a multi-story mixed-use development project during its site planning. Further studies can extend the SM framework to include other aspects of facility design such as envelope, structure, services, and space planning.
Keywords: concepts, elements, phases, layers, components, scenario, strategy.
